Croatia

Croatia is one of the former Yugoslav republics with primarily roman catholic population.
The most symbolic landmark of capital the Cathedral of Zagreb.

Zagreb

The extensive restoration of cathedral is going for a very long time.
The original materials used for construction were of poor quality.

Right next to cathedral is the palace of archbishop

Column of Mary in the center of square close to cathedral

Casual view from Zagreb
In Zagreb there is a statue to Nikola Tesla
Croats claim that he was Croat and Serbs claim that he was Serb

The center of hassle and bustle of Zagreb is Ban Josip Jelacic square with his statue in central part

The architectural style of city is somehow mixed

with classical interesting examples

and modern buildings

Zagreb consists of two major upper and lower parts which are connected with super short range funicular.
The price for funicular ticket is expensive, considering the fact that right next to it are the stairs heading to upper part.

The view of Zagreb from upper part

Upper part has mainly governmental buildings and this beautiful St. Mark's Church

Another interesting location in upper town is the Stone Gate of Zagreb.
It sort of became a sanctuary for Croats, like a symbol of protector of Zagreb, as it survived the great fire during medieval times which has destroyed much of old town.
